Casey Bly
leaves community with good memories
THURMONT,
Md. - Casey Bly, the Thurmont teenager who captured the
hearts of so many, passed away August 17 following a battle
with cancer, but his memory continues to live on as many
in the area remember him as wonderful, brave and a great
friend to everyone.
Hundreds of community members turned out to celebrate
Casey’s life at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church
and honor the young man who touched so many in his short
life and taught them what is truly important.
“God used Casey to flip our lives upside down and
inside out and reprioritize our lives,” said Reverend
K. Craig Moorman.

was remembered by those at Duke University Hospital and
Georgetown University hospital, where he received treatment,

Emmitsburg has three crime "hot spots"
EMMITSBURG, Md. – Though Emmitsburg is far from a gotham
of crime, it does have a few “hot spots” where
more crimes tend to occur.
The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office analyzed the 2251
calls for service in the first seven months of 2007 and mapped
them out by location as well as time. The location analysis
showed that the area around the downtown square and just east
of it, around the community building on South Seton Avenue
and the area around Silo Hill.
Mayor James Hoover said he was a little surprised to see that
the downtown square was a “hot spot.” “You
would think with all the foot traffic on the square that it
would be hard to get away with anything.”

Community show at Catoctin High School this weekend
THURMONT, Md. – Over 2,500 farm and garden, household,
quilt, livestock, machinery and commercial displays will be
featured in the 51st Annual Thurmont and Emmitsburg Community
Show at Catoctin High School this weekend.
“I
look for there to be a good turnout,” said Rodman
Myers, one of the organizers. “We have people come
every year to see old friends and make new ones.”
Between
7,000 and 9,000 people have been attending the community
show over the three days of activities. Among those, are
around 650 exhibitors who will be competing for about $8,000
