Mayor Hoover's scholarship fund established

EMMITSBURG, Md. – All the chicken barbequing and burger flipping at McDonald’s has paid off. Emmitsburg students now have another aid in financing their education. Mayor James Hoover and his wife Diana have established The Mayor Jim Hoover’s Emmitsburg Scholarship Fund at The Community Foundation of Frederick County.

Graduating high school seniors, students who are home-schooled, and older returning students residing in Emmitsburg are eligible for the scholarship. The first one will be awarded for the 2008-2009 academic year.

Todd Wivell sent to serve in Afghanistan

EMMITSBURG, MD. -– For one local man, recently deployed to serve a tour of duty in Afghanistan, the decision to serve his country was not a difficult decision, nor was it one he has backed down on, even after 14 years of service.

TSgt. Todd Wivell, a lifelong resident of Emmitsburg, joined the United Sates Air Force in 1994, following in the footsteps of his father and uncle, who both served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. For Wivell, his decision to join the force came about, in most part, due to one woman.
